All test dates
| Test day | Sign up by | Tests |
|---|---|---|
| 25 November 2026 | 21 October 2026 | Citizenship test and permanent residence test |
| 26 May 2027 | 21 April 2027 | Citizenship test and permanent residence test |
| 24 November 2027 | 20 October 2027 | Citizenship test and permanent residence test |
Both tests are written and held at test centres all over Denmark. At most centres the permanent residence test runs 11:00–11:30 and the citizenship test 13:00–13:45. Your test centre confirms the exact time and place.
Which test do you need?
- The citizenship test (Indfødsretsprøven) is for Danish citizenship. 45 questions in 45 minutes. You pass with 36 correct answers, including at least 4 of the 5 questions on Danish values.
- The permanent residence test (Medborgerskabsprøven) is for permanent residence. 25 questions in 30 minutes. You pass with 20 correct answers.
What it costs
The fee is 946 kr. per test (2026 price). You pay it to the test centre when you sign up, and you are only registered once you have paid.
How to sign up
- Choose a test centre (prøveafholder). Most are language centres (sprogcentre), and you can usually pick the one that suits you best.
- Register on the test centre's website before the deadline. The deadline is about five weeks before the test.
- Pay the fee. Your place is only confirmed once the fee is paid.
- You get a confirmation with the time and place. On the day, bring your original photo ID, such as your residence card or passport. A driving licence or a copy is not accepted.
If you need to cancel
The rules are set by each test centre. Typically you get the fee back, minus a small admin fee, if you cancel before the deadline, and part of it if you cancel later. Close to the test you usually get nothing back. There is no make-up test if you are ill, so you would have to sign up for the next test and pay again. If you miss the deadline, you usually have to wait for the next test day.
